Overview

Petrochemical engineering is a specialized branch of Chemical Engineering which deals with the operations of refining and petrochemical technology. The term petrochemical refers to the organic chemicals which are obtained directly or indirectly from crude petroleum. Petrochemical Engineering applies basic principles in Chemical and Physical Sciences to the development, design, fabrication and construction, operations, control and management of plants for the processing of raw materials from petroleum and organic sources to obtain useful products for human consumption.

Objective

On successful completion of the program, graduates from the Department of Petrochemical Engineering should be able to:

  1. Understand the basic principles underlying the operation of Chemical and petrochemical Engineering plants, and processes that occur in the plants.

  2. Design, fabricate, model, simulate and optimize chemical technological processes and further prepare and read engineering drawings and technological schemes.

  3. Set up and operate small scale units of their own so that they can be self- employed.

  4. Operate, maintain and service chemical and petrochemical engineering plants.

  5. To understand safety measures, hazard analysis and pollution control in chemical and petrochemical engineering plants as well as the environment of the operating system.
